The Wisconsin Off-Road Bicycling Association is a state-wide organization founded in 1988 by cyclists wishing to preserve and protect environmentally sound off-road cycling opportunities. The organization has grown to over 700 members by 1999, with 16 chapters around Wisconsin.
WORBA volunteers have helped maintain trails in public and private lands in locations such as the Chequamegon National Forest and the Southern Kettle Moraine State Forest, Calumet County Park near Neenah and CamRock County Park near Cambridge, and a private trail called "The Ranch" near Green Lake, in addition to so many others. Between January and June of 1999, WORBA volunteers logged over 2000 man-hours of trail maintenance time.
As an example trail, WORBA created "Area 25.5" near Madison as a private, members-only bike trail and experimental trailwork area, where WORBA volunteers have honed their skills at creating sustainable single track that requires minimal maintenance - mostly brushing and occasional deberming. Many of these techniques have been acquired through contact and visits from the International Mountain Bike Association's Trail Care Crews.
