The cross country skiing opportunities at the Levis Mound Trail Center couldn't be better. With trails ranging from advanced to beginner and grooming that accomidates all types of skiing- including classical, skating and backcountry, skiers here will be pleasantly surprised by this volunteer based trail.

Facilities include a large parking area , warm cross country ski chalet, running water and mens and womens bathrooms. Groups are welcome and the chalet can be rented. Several picnic areas are located along the trail, and back country camping is allowed by permit (contact the Clark Co. Forestry Department, 715-743-5140)

The trail system consists of approximately fifteen miles of groomed trail and another ten of ungroomed backcountry routes. The more advanced trails are located north and west of Levis on Trow Mound, while intermediate and easy trails lie near the base of Levis Mound. Back country skiers can climb the difficult narrow singletrack to the tops of the mounds for spectacular views, or use the tame RGS trail. Deer, turkeys, coyote and even a stray wolf can be spotted among the forested 300 foot tall sandstone bluffs.

All groomed trails are set with diagonal tracks and a skating lane averaging 12 feet wide. Grooming is handled by members of the Neillsville Area Trail Association, using a ASV Track Truck and 8 foot Tidd Tech groomer or SWT Skandic with a Ginzu Groomer. Depending on snow conditions, the trail is generally groomed three times or more per week.

No walking, snowshoeing or pets are allowed on groomed trails. Please respect the volunteer hours of work which go into the grooming at The Levis Mound Trail. Trail passes are required.
