Hiking: Although summer use of the trail system is greatest with mountain bikers, hikers are welcome and all singletrack trails are designated "multi-use" for cyclists, hikers and snowshoers. Hiking can be especially rewarding during the spring and fall when emerging plant life and autumn colors abound. Rest benches, constructed by Neillsville Middle School students, are located on several overlooks and scattered throughout the trail system. There is also a picnic area and table on Trow Trail. Some of the favorite trails constructed by the Neillsville Area Trail Association ascending Levis Mound are Cliffhanger on the east side and Toad Road on the west. A beautiful trail on the north side, called Northface, overlooks a deep ravine and traverses to the northwest point of the mound. Flat trails circling Levis Mound, include- clockwise, Warm-up, Select-Cut, Dead Turkey, Lower Glen, and finishing on Snodgrass. To the west, Upper Hermosa and Hermosa, which scale the ridge tops of Trow Mound, provide great views of the surrounding county forest and end up near Rouse Road and Gorman Avenue, 4 miles northwest of the main trail head. Hikers should be aware that some trails are steep and footing is loose. Other trail and forest users may be present and hiking is not recommended during the deer gun season. Camping, food, gas and refreshments are available in Hatfield, 3 miles south on County hiway J.6

Snowshoeing in the Levis / Trow Mound area is excellent. Not only can a select number of trails be used here, but also the surrounding thousands of acres of Clark County Forest. Snow shoeing is permitted on all N.A.T.A. constructed singletrack hiking and biking trails within the Levis / Trow Mound Trail System. Some trails are very steep, but a rewarding challenge for the snowshoer. Winter use of the trail provides an excellent opportunity for wildlife viewing and tracking. Deer, fox, coyote and even a rare wolf from the Central Wisconsin pack, can be seen here. Exploring the sandstone outcroppings near the top of the mounds and within the forested valleys can be a great outdoor experience. Winter camping is allowed, but permits must be obtained from the forestry and Parks Department (715-743-5140) All groomed cross country trails are closed to 'shoeing-and pets are not allowed on these trails. All other areas are open. Most snow shoeing trails are signed and trail maps are located at major trail intersections and at the trail head. Food, gas and refreshments are available in Hatfield, 3 miles south on County hiway J. The Levis mound Trail Center is located 3/4 mile north of Hwys 95 & Co.hwy J.
