CORBA membership kickoff!
Thank you to those that were able to make the meeting last night. For those who were not able to get to the meeting I have attached a membership application to this email, in case you are interested in joining!!
A summary of our meeting is outlined below:
Introductions - 27 people attended the meeting and the general consensus was that we are all interested in more trails to ride close to home!
Race Update - Phil Johnson provided us an update on the 2006 Firecracker race. He shared race results from last year, $$ can benefit corba this year to some extent, and a recruitment for volunteers (free tshirt / hat).
Trails Update - Craig outlined the future plans for Lowes Creek, which includes increasing the singletrack so that for year-round use riders can avoid doubletrack ski trails. He promises not to work us every weekend this year!
Bill Zimmerman, Friends of the Hickory Ridge Trail, joined the meeting to outline some proposed plans their group has to build singletrack in Chippewa County. CORBA has offered to provide technical assistance where needed and volunteers.
Organizational Update - The group has filed articles of incorporation and will be turning in the non-profit application soon (This is the 3rd step in the process). Membership applications were handed out. Member benefits are in development but for now member ($20 individual/family or $50 family) benefits include Trail Map (Lowes Creek), Window static sticker, and membership card. The biggest benefit is more trails to ride.
Those in attendance were reminded of the benefits of trail workdays and also of getting involved in projects that they are interested in.
Update from Eau Claire County: John Staszcuk reminded those in attendance that parking in the expo center area is not allowed and that they should continue to use the official parking lot. Discussion about the addition of a parking lot on the East side of the park. Discussion of winter use of the park and reminders that all riders/walkers/trailworkers need to stay off of the groomed ski trails.
Discussions: Discussion topics included marketing ideas, foundation applications, and riding opportunities.
Reminder: Trail workdays Saturday, March 18 and March 25th. 9am at the Lowes Creek Parking lot.
