Projects

One of our first projects will be to map and mark the existing trails at Hardscrabble Ski Area. There is somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 miles of existing trails there, mostly cross-country ski trails, and we will be going out with GPS equipment and tracking all the trails. We will then bring those tracks in, and upload them to a computer where we can display them on a topographic map. Once we have reached that point, we will be able to come up with a numbering scheme for intersections, and can put together a finished trail map of the area.

We have also asked our members who own GPS receivers to take them with on other rides in the area, on logging roads and hiking trails that are open to bikes. This will be an exploratory ride program, where the bikers go out and ride new territory, and bring back a track and comments regarding the quality and degree of difficulty of the trail, along with notes on any maintenance issues. By doing this, we hope to map out as many trails as possible in a minimal amount of time. As the trail information and tracks come in, we'll be able to find existing loops that are good for riding, and map those out.
